Balamurali A R
Balamurali A R completed his B.Tech in Information technology from the National Institute of Technology, Allahabad. Soon after graduating, he joined one of the top software companies in India based at Chennai as a developer. Over the next 3 year period, he worked on various technologies and has been part of many successful project endeavours. He joined The IITB-Monash Research Academy to solve frontline problems faced in computer science. His guides are Dr. Pushpak Bhattacharyya and Dr. Ingrid Zuckerman. Prashant Agrawal
Prashant completed his B.E. (Hons.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from BITS-Pilani, Pilani Campus in 2010. After graduation, he worked as a Graduate Engineer Trainee for a year in SKF India Ltd. gaining experience in both manufacturing and sales operations. He is working under the guidance of Dr. P.S. Narendra Akiti
Narendra Akiti did his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad (A.P). He then did his M.Tech from IIT, Roorkee in Chemical Engineering Department with specialization Computer Aided Process Plant Design. After his post-graduation, he worked as Assistant Professor in Moradabad Institute of Technology, Moradabad. During this teaching period he got the strong desire to do research and decided to pursue Ph.D. Later, he joined in IITB - Monash Research Academy to work on the project "Granule Breakage in a Controlled Shear Shield - Modelling and Experiments" under the guidance of Prof Devang Khakhar (IIT Bombay) and Dr. Karen Hapgood (Monash University).

Bhumika Arora
Bhumika Arora did her M.Tech. in Information Technology with specialization in Bioinformatics from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad. Some of her academic achievements are: GATE qualified, got Credit for Mathematics from University of New South Wales, All India Talent Scholarship Award from Children’s Education Trust of India, New Delhi. Her areas of interest are Protein structure prediction, Computational intelligence and machine learning in bioinformatics, and Computer aided drug designing. She has applied machine learning approach viz. Support Vector Machines for the detection of splice sites in her M.Tech research and based on this work got a paper published in Springer’s Communications in Computer and Information Sciences. Interest as well as deep involvement in M.Tech research has developed a strong desire in her to step forward in this field of applying computational approaches for extracting important information about the molecules of life.

Pratham Arora
Accelerated by his desire to work in the field of clean energy Pratham joined the IITB-Monash research academy just after completing his B.E. in Chemical engineering from BITS Pilani, Goa Campus. During his bachelors he worked on Biogas technologies which owed him two internships in IIT Delhi. He also presented his work at the 3rd IWA Asia Pacific Young Water Professionals Conference -“Achieving Sustainable Development in the New Era”, Singapore. Pratham loves adventure sports and is an ardent traveller. Reading spiritual books and practicing meditation are some of his leisure.

Ramakrishna B Bairi
Ramakrishna B Bairi has done his B.E. in Computer Science from MIT Manipal and M.S. in Software Engineering from BITS Pilani. He has worked for IBM for 10 years before joining IITB-Monash Academy. He has architected, designed and developed many scalable, high performance software systems at IBM in the fields of databases, web, 4G and intelligent systems. He has contributed many articles, posters and reusable components to various technical forums at IBM. His research interest includes developing intelligent systems, AI and data mining. His AI program won the first place in the all India level programming contest held in IBM.

Jubina Balan
Jubina Balan graduated from Mumbai University with a major in Biotechnology and attained her M Tech in Biotechnology from Dr. D.Y. Patil University. She has worked at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre-Mumbai on the production of anti-cancerous compounds from Psoraleacorlifolia using hairy root and callus culture. She also worked at the Centre for Genetic Research & Diagnostic Laboratory, M.G.M Hospital gaining experience in: -Human Cell& Tissue Culture Techniques, Karyotyping, FISH, Estimation of Abnormalities in Human Peripheral Blood, lymphocytes invitro and Human Syndromes. Together with Dr Paul Verma and Dr Huseyin Sumer (from Monash) and Prof Dulal Panda from IITB, she is working on the project “Generation and characterization of induced pluripotent cells (iPSCs) and studying checkpoint mechanism in human somatic cells and iPSCs”.

Sushrut Bhanushali
Sushrut completed his MSc in Chemistry with Organic chemistry majors from the Department of Chemistry, University of Pune in 2008, along with a PG Diploma in Patents and Intellectual Property rights. Before joining the academy, he worked as a research associate for 3 years in Advanced Materials Division at the Tata Chemicals Innovation Centre, Pune. His work consisted of nanomaterial synthesis, characterization and application of nanomaterials for energy applications. He has filed 3 patents as an inventor in the field of applied nanomaterials along with oral presentations in 2 international conferences. Sushrut is an avid trekker, traveller and a nature enthusiast with astronomy as his forte. He has joined the IITB Monash Research academy for the project ‘Investigation of Thermal properties of Nanofluids’ under the guidance of Prof Anuradda Ganesh, Prof P C Ghosh and Prof Wenlong Cheng.

Darshak Bhatt
Darshak Bhatt completed his graduation in field of Electronics Engineering from Birla Viswakarma Mahavidyalaya, Vallabh Vidyanagar. He was awarded the gold medal for securing highest CPI by the university. In addition to this, IE (Institute of Engineering), Gujarat circle awarded him a silver medal for securing highest percentage in Electronics Engineering. After completing his graduation, he joined Tata Communication Transformation Services, where he worked as graduate Engineering trainee in department of wireless and voice fault management. He then did his post-graduation in field of Communication Engineering at BITS-Pilani. He also carried out his dissertation thesis at ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore, and also worked as assistant professor in GCET Engineering College. Rimi Chakrabarti
Rimi has a mix of diverse academic backgrounds – she is an undergraduate degree in Zoology (Calcutta University) and completed a graduate degree in Biotechnology (Bangalore University). She worked as a trainee in a blood bank and as a microbiologist in a biotech firm before joining The Academy. Together with Prof. Ross L. Coppel, Prof. Brian M. Cooke, Dr. Swati Patankar and Prof Dulal Panda she is working on a project that looks deep into the arrangement of Apicomplexan tubulin with a broad objective of developing novel, efficient chemotherapeutic agents. Besides being an avid reader, Rimi is a novice painter - her medium being glass.

Jas Chawla completed his Dual Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.Tech and M.Tech) from IIT Bombay in 2006. He worked with Prof. Shashikanth Suryanarayanan on Vehicle Dynamics for his Masters thesis. Kaushik Choudhury is Physics major of 2004 batch from St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi. He received his Masters’ degree in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2006. He worked on different research projects at BIT Mesra, Ranchi and SGSITS, Indore. Shamik Chouwdhury
Shamik Chowdhury received his B.Tech. from West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata, India in 2009 and M.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, India in 2011, both in Biotechnology. During his Masters, he worked on the development, characterization and application of novel adsorbents for removal of toxic, synthetic dyes from wastewaters. In his capacity as a postgraduate student, Shamik has published more than 15 original peer-reviewed international journal articles and has more than 20 national/international conference papers to his credit. Siddharth Gadkari
Siddharth is a B. Tech in Chemical Engineering from Nagpur University and an M.S in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University. Chetana Gavankar has Masters Degree in Computer Engineering from Pune University. She worked with Zensar Technologies for two years as software engineer. Bhukya Hussain
Bhukya Hussain completed his Bachelor’s degree from Kakatiya University and thereafter joined in two years M.Sc. program in the Department of Chemistry, IIT Bombay where he did his masters project in Computational Biology in the lab of Dr. Ruchi Anand which involved Structure Based Drug Designing. To get an exposure to the wet work he continued further in the same lab for one year as a project fellow with a partial economical support from IITB-Monash Research Academy. At present he is pursuing Ph.D. in Structural Biochemistry in an IITB-Monash collaborative project which deals with the “Investigation of butyrolactone-like small molecules in regulation of antibiotic production in Streptomyces” under the supervision of Dr. Ruchi Anand, Dr. Milton Hearn and Dr. Reinhard Boysen.

Himangshu Kaushik
Himangshu Kaushik graduated from Hans Raj College, University of Delhi in Physics (Hons) and did his M.Sc. in Applied Geophysics in IIT Bombay. Some of his academic achievements are: Gate Rank 65, IIT JAM Rank 30 in Geophysics and 76 in Physics, 10th topper of the state in Higher Secondary, State Rank 3 in Mathematics Olympiad and Rank 10 in Chemistry Olympiad. He was a Coordinator of TECHFEST-2010 in IIT Bombay and a student companion of M. Sc. Applied Geophysics (Batch: 2010-2012), IIT Bombay. Surendra Sasi Kumar
Surendra Sasi Kumar did his graduation in JNTU in chemical engineering stream and soon after this he joined IIT Kharagpur for his masters in the area of Chemical Engineering. Kamal Kumar Murari
Kamal has completed his Masters in Water Resources Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. After completing his post graduation, he worked in TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) for over 3.5 years and Center for International Projects, Columbia Water Center India for about a year. In IITB-Monash Research Academy, he is working with Dr Subimal Ghosh and Dr Eduardo Daly. His research topic is “Impact of Climate Vulnerability and Climate Change on Water Availability at a River Basin Scale”, aiming at development of an integrated eco-hydro-climatological model for assessing the impact of global climate changes on soil moisture and vegetation.

Ajay Nagesh
Ajay has graduated with a M.Tech. in Computer Science from IIT Bombay. He holds a Bachelor's degree in the same area from R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore. After his Masters he had a brief stint as a software engineer at Citrix Systems. His areas of interest lie at the intersection of natural language processing and machine learning. His research work is focused on Learning for Semantic Parsing and is under the guidance of Prof Pushpak Bhattacharyya, Prof Ganesh Ramakrishnan and Prof Geoff Webb. He enjoys reading history, fiction, philosophy, is an amateur quizzer, is interested in languages and is a self-professed connoisseur of movies.

Ajay Nair
Ajay Nair did his M. Tech from IIT Delhi with a first rank in specialization and B. Tech from M. G. University, Kottayam, in Electrical Engineering. His Masters project resulted in 3 papers in the IEEE international conference - ICEMS 2010. He had previously worked as a Junior Research Fellow in CDAC-Trivandrum, on the design and development of a mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle, and also as a Lecturer in Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology, Trivandrum. Currently he is pursuing PhD in ‘Modeling and inference of gene regulatory network’, under Prof Pramod Wangikar (IIT-Bombay) and Dr Madhu Chetty (Monash University).

Akash Nigam
Akash has done his B.Tech in Information and Communication Technology from DA-IICT Gandhinagar in 2008. He did his B.Tech project at IIT Delhi and worked as Research Fellow at IIT-Bombay before joining the Academy for PhD in Dec 2009. He will be working at the Academy with Prof Ramgopal Rao (IIT Bombay) and Prof Malin Premaratne (Monash) for studying the "Transport in novel Semiconductor devices". Saumya graduated from Allahabad Agricultural Institute Deemed University with a major in Biotechnology in 2007. Ruchi Grover Wankhede
Ruchi Grover Wankhede post graduated from Delhi University with Organic chemistry as her majors. Also did M.Phil in chemistry from Delhi University only. She has a working experience in the field of Protective Coatings as officer Technology (R&D), Asian Paints Pvt. Ltd. In IITB-Monash Research Academy she will be working in her PhD on “Development of Hydrophobic/ hydrophilic coatings through sol gel process, using fatty acid modified nano particles” under the Supervision of Prof. A.S. Khanna (IIT-B) and Prof. Nick Birbillis (Monash University).

Saroj Yadav
Saroj Yadav has done her Bachelors in Biochemistry from RVS College of Arts & Science and has completed her Masters in Biotechnology from IIT Bombay. Soon after, she joined the PhD program at the IITB Monash Research Academy. Together with Dr. Dulal Panda and Dr. Paul Verma she is working on the project “generation and characterization of cell cycle regulation of induced pluripotent stem cells”. Along with her scientific endeavours she is interested in arts and literature.
