Ms. Karuna Veeramani did her Bachelors in Pharmaceutical Sciences (B. Pharm) from Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Pharmacy, Navi Mumbai. As a part of the curriculum, she underwent in-plant training in Flamingo Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Rabale, Navi Mumbai for a period of one month. She further went on to pursue her Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences (M. S. Pharm) in the department of Medicinal Chemistry in National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Hyderabad. As a part of her dissertation work, she worked on 2 projects; one of which was the synthesis and applications of a novel metal copper-iodine disalt catalyst for which she was the second author for that particular research work published in the reputed Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)’s Journal of Green Chemistry with an impact factor of 8.02, entitled “Microwave-assisted direct oxidative synthesis of ?-ketoamides from aryl methyl ketones and amines by a water soluble Cu(I)-complex”. The other project that she completed was research on combined hybrid analogs of ?-carbolines and 1,2,3-triazoles titled “Design, Synthesis and Anticancer Evaluation of 1, 2, 3-Triazolo-tetrahydro-?-carboline Derivatives via Three-Component ‘Click’ Reaction,” where the above synthesized novel catalyst was used to catalyze the Click Reaction in the process of designing, synthesizing and evaluating novel molecules for anticancer activity. She has tremendous interest in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) too and has done a one month online correspondence course on the same from the World Intellectual Property Rights (WIPO) Academy. Her areas of research interest are Organic chemistry, Materials Science and Nanotechnology. Her hobbies include writing (poems, novels, and short stories), painting and other similar arts, music and dance. She has participated and won many State Level Quiz Competitions, Essay Competitions, Elocution Competitions, Poster Presentations and Paper Presentations organized by IPA (Indian Pharmaceutical Association), IES-MCRC (Indian Education Society’s Management College and Research Centre), SRCM and UNIC, etc.; and also attended various National and International level Conferences. She is currently enrolled in the IITB-Monash Research Academy where she would be pursuing research on the project entitled “Design, Synthesis and Applications of Novel Heterogenous Catalysts in Continuous Flow Synthesis,” under Prof. Anil Kumar (IIT-Bombay) and Prof. Neil Cameron (Monash university).
