Nikhil Jain completed his Integrated Dual Degree in Mining Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi in 2016. He designed fracture models using COMSOL Multiphysics for hydraulic fracturing on Shale gas in Indian reservoirs as a part of his Master’s Thesis. During his Dual Degree course, in sophomore year while working as an Intern at IIT Bombay under the guidance of Dr. T. N. Singh, he gained exposure to COMSOL Multiphysics and numerical modelling in the process of pursuing studies pertaining to shale gas and hydraulic fracturing. Thereafter, in the third year, he had continued this endeavor further as an intern under the guidance of Dr. Vikram Vishal on hydraulic fracture and fracture modelling in shale reserves of India and also published a technical paper “Three-dimensional modelling of propagation of hydraulic fractures in shale at different injection pressures” in Sustainable Environment Research. Furthermore, he undertook a stint as a trainee on field, under Mr. Shantanu Das, Technical GM, WSS, ONGC, during his summer training at Well Stimulation Services, ONGC, Ahmedabad wherein he had learnt and witnessed Hydraulic fracturing jobs practiced by ONGC. He has won several awards in IIT BHU during his Dual Degree course, like Best Student Award by IIT BHU Global Alumni Association, Publication award for the year 2012 and 2013 by IIT BHU Global Alumni Association, for demonstrating record number of publication among undergraduate category. He was also the 1st Naresh Christopher Jain Scholar of his college which is awarded by IIT BHU Global Alumni Association. Apart from his keen research interest, he maintains a sharp entrepreneurial acumen and has demonstrated the same while interfacing with the digital and social world. He was the founder of ‘EditEngine’, a small venture of his own, contributing to the research community by providing professional services in the form of editing and proofreading the manuscripts before they are submitted for publication or review. He loves travelling and entrepreneurship and aspires to become a “ResearchPreneur” one day!
