Sowmiya did her BTech (Chemical and Electrochemical Engineering) at CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI), Karaikudi. She has published two research papers in reputed publications like Elsevier and RSC publishing during the four year course. After graduation, she did her MS in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at SRM University, Kaatankulathur Campus where she was a gold medallist.. Besides her interest in research, it is her affinity to electrochemistry that had driven her to pursue doctoral research. Her area of interest is the subject of Electrochemical energy storage systems, Electrocatalysis in Nanomaterials and Electrochemical sensors. Her supervisors are Prof. Sagar Mitra (IIT Bombay) and Prof Doug MacFarlane (Monash University). She will be working on the project ‘High Energy Density Lithium – Ionic Liquids Batteries’. Her hobbies are playing the Veena, reading poems and listening to music.
