Gitika Rani Saha

Gitika Rani Saha completed her B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata with a CGPA of 9.12 in 2016. During her under graduation, she took part in various research projects and industrial internships. Despite bagging a job through campus placement, her crave to acquire knowledge led her to pursue M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT-Dhanbad, where she secured a CGPA of 9.60 in 2018. Her developing interest in green catalysis and alternative fuel resources created the basis of her Master’s thesis on “Development of Pd-modified Cu-ZnO catalysts for methanol production via CO2 hydrogenation”. She is one of the top twenty students in India who got selected for the prestigious “AcSIR- Dr. APJ Kalam Summer Training Program 2017” which provided her a great opportunity to work at one of the top-level national research laboratories. She has published her work in two peer reviewed journals. She was also chosen as a peer reviewer for the International Journal of Oil, Gas and Coal Technology. Following her Masters she worked as an Energy Manager at Prism Johnson Limited in Mumbai, India. As an industry professional, her responsibilities included carrying out energy auditing, implementation of green energy in the cement and ceramic plants with a mission to provide efficient monitoring, process control and optimization of energy utilization.

With the ultimate professional ambition of research Gitika joined IITB-Monash Research Academy where she will be working on “Development of nanostructured carbon supports and nanocatalysts for sustainable heterogeneous organic catalysis” under the guidance of Prof. C Subramaniam from IIT- Bombay and Prof. Alan Loyd Chaffee from Monash University, in industrial collaboration with BASF. Apart from research, she also loves music, traveling and being part of philanthropic activities.

Debamita Ghosh


Debamita Ghosh

Debamita Ghosh has completed her M.Sc. in Statistics from IIT, Kanpur in the year 2012, and B.Sc. in Statistics (Honors) from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata in the year 2010. Her master’s thesis was ‘Spatial Custer Detection’, which emphasised on techniques of detection of the most affected region by any disease. During her master programmer at IIT Kanpur, she had also briefly worked on “Future prediction of purchasing power of Indian districts: An Analysis with Regression and Extrapolation” at Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta in the year 2011. She has been teaching for 4 years. She has proficiency in software skills like R, C-language, MINTAB, SPSS, and SAS. During her tenure at IITB-Monash Research Academy, Debamita will be researching on the project IMURA0739 – “Machine Learning for Next Generation Wireless Networks” under the supervision of A/Prof Manjesh Kumar Hanawal, Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, IIT Bombay and Dr. Nikola Zlatanov, Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering, Monash University.
Apart from research, Debamita is learning synthesizer too. Her hobbies are dancing, painting, and travelling.

Lekshmy UK


Lekshmy UK

Lekshmy completed her Integrated MA in English Studies from IIT Madras. Her dissertation was on the topic ‘Gender in post-Restoration English Coffee-houses’. She is currently pursuing the IITB-Monash Joint PhD program on the topic ‘Migration, Minority, Memory’ under the supervision of Dr. Mridula Nath Chakarborty (Monash) and Dr. Paulomi Chakraborty (IITB). Feminist theory and Postcolonial theory are her favorite areas of study. She is a dancer and in her free time one can find her travelling, painting, modeling or singing. She is also enthusiastic about good food and great ideas. Lekshmy is that quintessential Mallu HSS ghost you cannot escape.

Silpa Mariya


Silpa Mariya

Silpa completed her B.Sc. (H) degree in Physics from St.Stephen’s College , Delhi University. She obtained her masters degree in Physics from National Institute of Technology,Rourkela.Her masters degree thesis was based on ‘A Dynamic Light Scattering study on the Effect of Cross Linker Concentration on Dynamics of Acrylamide-Sodium Acrylate Hydrogels’.Apart from this, Silpa has been selected as summer intern at Inter University Accelerator Centre,Delhi and Indian Institute of Technology ,Hyderabad. She has also cleared JAM 2017 and GATE 2019 .Currently , she is pursuing PhD at IITB-Monash Research Academy on the topic “Modelling the subdiffusive motion of bacteriophages within mucus” under the guidance of Prof.P Sunthar (IITB),Prof. Jeremy J.Barr(Monash) and Prof.Ravi Prakash Jagadeeshan (Monash). Silpa is also passionate about dancing and travelling.

Aswin Paul


 

Aswin Paul

Aswin completed his Bsc.(H). Physics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. He did his Masters from Department of Physics, NIT Nagpur. His masters’ thesis is titled “Playing quantum games utilizing condensed matter systems” which is a theoretical work where models like the transverse Ising model were used to generate correlations between players in a game. At IITB-Monash Research Academy, he will work on the project titled, “The Arrow of Sophistication in Biological Self-Organization” under the guidance of Dr Manoj Gopalakrishnan (IIT Bombay) and Dr Adeel Razi (Monash University). The project intends to study and analyze several theoretical hypotheses put forward to explain the arrow of sophistication in molecules. These include the idea of a Markov blanket leading to emergent self-organization by Karl Friston, ideas of variational inference by Sanjoy Mitter, and connections to Bayesian statistics and machine learning theory.
